Abstract
Most previous research on community evolution focuses on predicting the future form of communities. In our study we focus on nodes and predict the state of a node towards its cluster, i.e. whether a node stays in the same cluster, moves to another cluster or drops out of the network. We examine different versions of the problem and investigate the use of appropriate features, employing both local and global node measures. Motivated by the extensive utilization of embeddings in machine learning, we introduce efficiently computed features based on node embeddings and compare them to the typical features used in community evolution. In addition, taking advantage of the information the history of a node provides, we consider chains of features of different length. Our experimental results show the complexity of the different variations of the problem and the effectiveness of specific features and chain lengths.
